Major Themes

H.G. Wells is one of the most famous writers in the world and will always be known for his works in one specific genre. Even though Wells wrote many novels and short stories that covered a broad range of subjects and genres, he is most notable know for his works in science fiction. Within this genre of science fiction, Wells covered many themes of not only the science community, but also of that of the every day world around him. One of the major themes Wells touched upon in many of his novels is, has technology and the use of it begging to go to gar? In The time Machine, and The Invisible Man advancements in technology lead to many problems for their creators and users. Another major theme that appears in one of Wells novels is, what happens when some one has to much power? This themes is most apparent in The Invisible Man when a scientist steps beyond the boundaries of science and is faced with many moral decisions. Finally, one of the themes that Wells wrote about was that of a Utopian society. Wells had many ideas about the organization of societies and that came out in his writing. A Modern Utopia is set in a Utopian world were their are no imports or exports.

Career and Awards

Throughout Wells life, he had many jobs and careers ranging from many temp and apprenticeships to things he is more famous for like teaching and writing. After going to school for a short time, Wells began many apprenticeships. Wells worked as a draper, a chemist assistant and many other jobs that were not successful. In 1879 Wells began his teaching career as a pupil tutor at the National School at Wookey. Later wells took a position at the Midhurst Grammar School which also meant he could continue his education. During this time, he helped set up the Royal College of Science Association where he became the president in 1909. In 1890 Wells finished his education with a Bachelors of Science and left as being a teacher. Along with teaching, wells also deviled in art. During his marriage with Amy, he used sketches as a tool of self expression. finally wells is most famous for his literary achievements. Even though wells is famous for his science fiction novels, he also wrote many novels in nonfiction. three of Wells most famous literary works come fro the genre of Science Fiction. Wells first novel was "The Time machine" in 1895. In 1897 he wrote the book titled "The Invisible Man". In 1898 Wells wrote his most famous novel titled "The War of The Worlds". As a result of his great literary achievements, the H.G. Wells award was created in his honor.

Early Years

Herbert George Wells was born on September 21,1866 in Kent Europe to Joseph Wells and Sara Neal. H.G. or "Bertie" was the forth and youngest child and lived a pretty interesting life. Wells was born into a lower middle class family who struggled to make ends meet. The family owned a small business with made little money, so to make some extra money, Joseph played as an amateur cricket player. 1874 was a key year for Wells future. In this year, Wells broke his led and became bedridden. During this time Wells took an interest in books and grew the desire to become a writer. In 1849 Wells went to a private school to further his skills but had to leave as a result of family issues. After returning from Thomas Morley commercial Academy, Wells began many unsuccessful apprenticeships ranging form a drape to a teacher. Wells married twice and divorced only once. He had two boys with wife Amy Catherine Robbins. Even though Wells had many affairs and a daughter with one, Amy din not divorce him. Wells died on August 13,1946 reportedly of diabetes or liver cancer. During his life, Wells created many literary masterpieces and will always be considered one o the greatest writers of all time.
